Future-scenario: CORCORAN
CORCORAN is named after the maximum security prison
for most dangerous criminals, a unescapable new prisontract in
the Californian desert, yes a prison in total
desolation. It is more then "up-to-date" and relevant,
as it perfectly describes the envisioned
"security-architecture" (Otto Schily) for our whole
planet. Total surveillance and a social order
deriving from the "understanding" of those
necessities. Not "unescapable" but burglarproof
is the envisioned goal, no matter whether it
concerns a house or a city, a nation or a continent.
This enforces a restrictive, authoritarian [fascist],
well-ordered society, that cannot tolerate any
stepping out of the context of each defined standard
norm/paradigm of this society. "Safety first" becomes
the (corporate) CORCORAN--Slogan, "safety first"
in aiplanes, on highways, in hotels, hospitals, etc.,
just everywhere. Safety contra freedom--this formula
functions everywhere in a more than (intendedly)
scared world society, all restrictions and
enforcements are being endured and "tolerated" if the
individual and social security is guaranteed. Thus,
we finally all live in either a golden or an asocial
[antisocial] cage, but in any case, we are prisoners
in a man-made and enforced system. It is already
possible to observe and research today, that the ones
in power, as well, are imprisoned in this CORCORAN:
there is no exit.
Rüdiger Lutz
"Die eighth Future"
CORCORAN as the challenge for a subtle change
(likewise see - Psychology Today, August 2006)
I was envisisioning and formulating seven different
futures out of hundreds empirically researched
future workspaces, labs and futurological congresses
in the western world, that kept the standards
and the repertoire for all utopias and futurological
visions for the nearer and farther future
developments till nowadays (see: "The Soft Change,"
Berlin 1984). But now one has to add an eighth
future scenerio, that first presents in his basic
formulation nothing but a dystopia and horror story,
opposing all other seven scenerios, each represented
a positive and desirable future world: but CORCORAN
in reality is the high-security-tract of the State
Prison Systems in the Californian desert, thus a
prison in total desolation and one of the major
deposit places for America's most dangerous criminals.
What futerological relevance does CORCORAN now have
for the global and local future envisionment? Due to
a worldwide visible situation of a permanent
(enforced) crisis ranging from natural catastrophies,
climatic changes to everything connected to global
terrorism: one goal is generally accepted: safety
for the indiviual and society is the number one goal
on the list of desirable future developments. Safety
first then enables all other goals, like prosperity,
development, growth, freedom and peace. Otto Schily
speaks of the necessity of a "architectonical
security structure" for the nations of the industrial
north and refers to all legal and executive powers
of all countries and nations.
CORCORAN becomes the archetype of the futerology,
only through the establishing and enforcement
of security measures against all threats from the
outside and disturbances from and within the inside,
can the system survive. The borders drawn are then
more relevant for the protected and the excluded,
from which one has to protect oneself. Surely, the
system is defined by borders, limits, walls and
(secret) passages, that exist and have to exist
(Sachzwang). But now, who is intern and who is
extern? Where is inside and outside?
[ rather like a "Klein Bottle"! See:
http://torus.math.uiuc.edu/jms/Images/klein.html ]
Is it possible for a state to have a city or house
absolutely non-invadable and a prison created
that is absolutly unescapable? This question
dominates the atmosphere and CORCORAN. When I am
part of the system, then I have certain rights and
obligations that have to be clearly defined,
likewise all credit cards, IDs and the access codes
define thestatus and ("well")being of each
individual.
The (pure) being defines the conciousnes, but
CORCORAN regulates both. Inner and outer worlds are
being created, and programmed by the CORCORAN-design,
and built. Certain grades of freedom have to be
restricted or optimized for security reasons, always
of course for the sake of the well-being of the whole
(corporate) system. This is self-evident concerning
the traffic system (right before left) or for health
issues (never without a condom), but can this be
applied for the interior design and the design of
consciousness of a human being and individual? How
far does the CORCORAN -- self-definition or "alien
control" (alienated control) -- reach? Video
surveillance everywhere remind us of an old dystopy:
"1984" became the incorperation of all dictatorships
and horror regimes, but nowadays it's like snow
from yesterday. The recent forms of control and
manipulation(s) are much more subtle and more tricky,
all in the name of the utmost possible (so called)
security. CORCORANs today are not only all prisons
and (nursing) homes, but all entertainment parks,
senior-settlements and hotel complexes, the shopping
malls and innercity districts, the schools and
factories, airports and train stations. The
"security" obsession in all of these environments
is representing the "architecture of security"
of this epoche, the "omnipresent" terrorism enforces
a "design for crime" already thought out by circles
of experts in the 1970s.
Nobody is any longer safe, nowhere and never, this is
valid for all exclusive elites, but likewise for all
unwillingly excluded ones and all imprisoned ones,
either you sit in a golden or an asocial cage, but in
each case one has walls, borders and "security"
barriers around oneself. The only wanderers between
the worlds, "the free radicals" are asylum seekers
and hackers, the most mobile, but as well the most
dangerous elements of that system.
Inside CORCORAN - the interior design of the power
structures and the whole system of the momentary
SS (Social Security)
According to the development and (de)formation of
the industrial capitalism and the socialistic
dictatorships in the East and Asia, CORCORAN is
mostly hirarchically organized, which means that
the materialistic-smechanistic paradigm is defining
and "creating" the soul of the system and of its
elements. Specially, in times of crisis, this more
or less obsolete structural model is always
intensly quoted. Though presented in a "new dress"
and with a modernistic topping, it is based on
hirarchic "top-down architectures," though enlarged
with the necessary dynamification concerning the
effective centers and the outer (suburban) areas.
"Level hirachics" are propagated instead of too
rigid linear-typologies and mobile "taskforces,"
and flexible teams have to assist frozen
bureaucracies or have to substitute them. Leading
functions are now moderated, threats of orders now
more accompanied then enforced, and enforced
messures are well adjusted by (intensive) care.
Such a subtle soft force does not represent itself
in any brachial or dominant way, but in veiling and
incentives, therefor with attractors and thrusts of
motivation. Sachzwänge, matters of force and forced
matters make it easier to justify completely "out
of the blue" decisions, the technocracy becomes
humanized and the laser sword is muted to paralyzing
and "numbing." No one is being patronized or
disabled, but is lead to the right way by hints and
measures of correction. The world economy enables
all Global Players very clearly the "GO!", but
enables all others to participate. Computer is now
simply called Microsoft and all soft drinks are
produced by Coca-Cola. Internet is Google and all
cars are Volkswagen and world cars, no matter how
and by whom produced. All means of food production
are patented by pharma concerns and produced, all
forms of energy channeled by as few as possible
transformers and deliverers. Information as a vector
is owned by the media-multis and science itself
becomes the pursuant to of all its agencies.
The system generates its own justification of
existence by the singularity and uniqunes of its
existence and has to be therefor perpetuated, due to
the lack of any alternatives. It is nobody's fault,
specifically, to have created this monocausal
self-reflexive system, therefor there is no need for
any critique of the system. As a consequence, and
due to the lack of any innovation, we have the step
by step "freezing" and therefor the dissolving
of the whole system.
The end of the hirarchy and therefor the death of
the dragon are seemingly, endlessly prolongued
in this snowball-effect pyramid-game, because still
further resources and power sources are found
to fuel and revitalize this internally sick system.
And, because no one can abolish self-exploitation
that quickly or can dispose of it, the ones already
declared dead live longer, the king is chess, but
not "checkmateable."
Entertainment and obscuratisms fill the vacuum of a
sin-deprived world of "live"; the "entertainment
society" and the event-economy fascinate by their
stroboscopic speed and manic hectic of
revolving door repetitions. The new trance is no
"relaxed existence": a turbo ecstasy of madness
and contradictions that make any distant observation
and objective summaries of facts impossible, i.e.,
they are no longer wanted anyway. The constant "new"
overpowers all eternal truths in which no one is no
longer interested -- they were quotes, revived
for "too long already," they are "out"!
Any structural change of the system is not "hip"
enough, because already existing safe CORCORANS
would be questioned and therefor all potential and
optional threats would find open doors, a risk that
no one is willing to take. The security-belts are
fastened much too tightly and the crash-test would
be much too dangerous and self-questioning for the
s(s)ystem. Anyway, one cannot depart, and no
alternatives are in sight; therefor, the slogan is:
"Further into the future with a constantly mirroring
back -- it cannot become any better!"
